HDD Upgrade

I create an image with the stock 80GB HDD using partimage. If I upgrade the HDD to a 500GB drive, will the image work? Any experience or constructive insight is appreciated.

Unusually slow transfer across SAMBA link

ISSUE ==== Writing is 100 times slower than reading. BACKGROUND ========== A samba connection was used to create an image of a Win98 FAT16 image (2GB) and took ~20 minutes (~90 MB\Min) Attempts to restore the image through the samba link indicate a 40+ hour estimate (700 KiB\Min). If I were running a business, I would make sure that it would not come back later and bite me from a legal standpoint. I don't think M$ would come after a user that backs up his own machine, however, they have lots of $$ and legal staff that have the potential to put a small business under.

jens, I have succesfully copied the image file to an NTFS partition on a USB HDD. First, I had to find out the names of my HDD and my USBHDD. This can be done with: cat /proc/partitions The result of this is that USB HDD was located at /dev/sda5. Yours may be different. Next I made a directory to mo...

Compression Schemes

When creating the image of the partition, you are given the choice of compressing the partiton file. My uncompressed image is 4.7 GB and the compressed (.gz) image of the same partition is 2.1 GB. I restored the 4.7 GB image which took 1:32 and in the process of testing it. I would like to know if t...

I have two identical drives, both with XP on them. Both are formatted with only one partition. I made an image of drive 1 and in the proces of ghosting it onto disk 2. I also saved a copy of drive 1's MBR. Do I need to ghost the MBR onto Disk 2? If yes, do I do this before ghosting the partition? Am...
