Why does partimage create many files for one image?

Why does partimage create dozens of small files for saving an image if tbe drive has enough space to save the entire image file?

Is there an option that one can use to tell partimage to save the complete image in only one file?

windows 7. it uses special formats for the disk partitions I suppose, so that a regular partition save/restore operation probably won't work.

You need to have a mounted external storage device with enough space.

If using NTFS partitions, you cannot use mount (it will only allow a read-only mount of the NTFS partition) but must use ntfs-3g to mount a read-write NTFS partition.

How to save an antire disk and recreate it exactly as it is

I use a Medion laptop which come with pre-installed windows and the partitions seem to be configured in a special way. So I want to make an image of the entire disk instead of by partition, and be able to recreate the disk exactly as it is. What are the exact commands to do that. The saved image may...

I use partimage from the rescue CD (sysresccd) and use partimage from the GUI.
