Partition Backup Size Incorrect

Post by chazall1 » Thu Mar 22, 2007 12:09 am

I am using the current Super Rescue Disk Live Cd. I have an up to date Edgy with a / and /home partition both Ext3. I wanted to make an image of my /home partition which is 25gb, the data is just under 3gb. I chose the /home partition hda2 and will be saving to an external HD, in a 17gb Ext3 partition. I can choose to not compress or to compress, but partimage is indicating that the image being created is 25gb, and there is not enough space in the destination partition. I have read the info on partimage and the image should be made from the data on the partition, not the partition itself. I have tried this several times, it should be imaging the 3gb info not the partition.
Any suggestions?

Size (Continued)

This is an excellent question, but I'm not sure I understand the response.
I thought Partimage only backed up the files on a partition, not all the empty space as well. I have 2.7GB on a 50GB partition and am expecting a compressed file <2.7GB, but it wants a much larger block.
