1st timer - simple questions

Post by shanepardue » Mon Jul 31, 2006 2:46 pm

i created a partition image, but in the path i saved it as backup7-31-06. i didn't put the .gz on the end. will that affect the restoring process?

also, the partition was split into many images...say i burned them all to cd's, when i go to restore, how does that process take place?

thank you for your patience!

filename: No, the file name does not matter, you could have called it backup.gif for all partimage cares. Using things like .raw .gz or .bz2 will just help if you need to know which compression type you used to create the backup in the first place. In a year's time will you remember it was .gz and not .bz2?

split files: partimage will prompt for each image file, as it needs it.
