had to edit po/Makefile for install

Post by ugadal » Wed Feb 25, 2004 2:27 pm

I just tried to st up partimage from source (0.6.4)
and I encountered a trouble
./configure
and make were ok
but make install fails while in po subdir
I had to append "; \" @line 136 of the po/Makefile
for make install to work.
now partimaged is running
but the client keeps bugging me for non-existing /dev/nbd?? bloc devices
that it claims to be able to "mknod" for me, but it never does actually
after hitting a baziillion time OK, i end up killing my window.

Help would be very much appreciated
Kernel 2.6.3, gcc 3.3.1

I never tried partimage with 2.6 kernel. Is nbd network block device? Are you using it?

editing po/Makefile

Hi!

I also had to edit po/Makefile, to compile partimage.

As configure's mkinstalldirs did not work, i subsituted it with: "mkinstalldirs = mkdir -p -- .".
Then "make install" worked...

(After this it of course complained about missing partimag user (with message: "chown: `partimag.root': invalid user"), but that's not so (i just haven't red from anywhere, that user partimag should have been created).)

Now it runs ok.

I just did: touch mkinstalldirs in the main dir, worked for me, and added user partimag. and did ./configure ---disable-ssl for the install.

On Fedora Core 2 with kernel 2.6.8-rc2.
Succes install with this workaround.

Just a quick report that the suggested workaround also works for debian (RC1 stable).

This workaround should be sticky, also worked for me on slackware 9.0 (modified a lot tho)

After:
./configure

and:
make

Also I had to edit ./Makefile and changed all:

chown partimag.root
---> chwon root.root

to avoid to create partimag user that doesn't exist on my computer.

This was the only way to have checkinstall create a slackware package without errors.

Working on FC3

Post by Guest » Mon Mar 07, 2005 12:07 am

Just to help, for FC3 i did the following in the partimage folder, after in-taring it:
touch mkinstalldirs

Code: Select all

./configure --disable-ssl && make && make install
Thanks to the other ppl that posted, was a big help.

Cheers

Alex
