When will LVM Partition type 8e will be supported

Post by [email protected] » Sun Nov 14, 2004 4:40 pm

LVM (type 8e) is beginning to be widely use.
It allow to enlarge filesystem easely (file can spread on 2 disk).
Any hope that LVM will be supported in the futur ?
Unkown type does work with partimage :!:

I second that. we hardly setup systems without lvm these days. It would be great if we could use partimage to build an initial resue system.

you can surface the logical partition by
lvchange -a y /dev/mapping/VolGroup00-LogVol00

then mount /dev/mapping/VolGroup00-LogVol00 /mnt/temp1

It would appear that (sadly) partimage is dead, and that no-one is developing the code. Which means no new features.

LVM, project status??

Post by znmeb » Fri May 13, 2005 2:58 pm

Yeah ... I need LVM support too. Is the project really dead? Does Ghost for UNIX (g4u) support LVM??

G4U does support LVM ... it just makes bit-by-bit copies. You have to mount your LVM partition with a live system and zero out the empty space first, but you need to do that anyway to get the images as small as possible.

Hi !
Take a look at the LRS http://lrs.linbox.org. I'm currently adding LVM support for it. I have a beta version backuping lvm1/2 partitions and I think I will commit the code to svn, in a few weeks.
Cheers,
Ludo.
