partimaged for Windows?

Post by Guest » Fri Sep 03, 2004 8:22 am

Hi. I tried to search the FAQ and the forums for this question, and I hope it's not already answered somwhere else. Well, here goes:

Are there any plans to develop the partimage deamon for Windows? That way I could run it on my Windows box to read/write images across the network.

Thanx! /Anders

This already exits! Windows calls it a "share". Your Windows server make a share.
eg: \\myserver\partimage

On the clients, use smbmount/smbmnt to mount the share.

eg. mount //myserver/partimage /mnt/share -t smbfs -o username=${lmuser}

Then you use something like:

partimage save -z2 -f3 -M -b /dev/hda1 /mnt/share/myfile.pi064.bz2
-or-
partimage restore -b -z2 -f3 /dev/hda1 /mnt/share/myfile.pi064.bz2

Thanks a lot! I'll try that when I get the time.
