Slack space within used data blocks copied?

Post by lost+found » Sat Apr 16, 2005 7:19 pm

Hi,

I've read that partimage copies used data blocks only. But does it copy slack space within used data blocks, that may appear at the end of a file, when the last data block is only used partly by that file? This slack space could still contain pieces of removed files. If so, I think the FAQ should mention this as a privacy issue.

Regards. :-)

Yes, it includes the slack space. The whole block is written in the image file. Of course, it may be improved, but it would not be a block management anymore. It would be tar.

Thanks for the info. It's just something good to realize before duplicating partitions, and maybe not something partimage should fix.

Partimage works well with JFS b.t.w... Nice!
