Allow Cancel in Batch Mode

Post by uberpinguin » Wed Nov 18, 2009 6:41 pm

I use partimage via another project (fogproject.org), and recently ran into a major issue: PI will ignore the Cancel signal when run in batch mode (-b).

This resulted in several hours of lost work because I had to force an unclean shutdown to kill PI (further details available on request, but not particularly relevant).

Partimage doesn't ignore the Pause/Resume signals in batch mode, so I do not see a reason for it to ignore the Cancel signal.

AFAIK partimage is not being actively developed. There have been some efforts to renew it, but I'm not sure where they stand. So if you need/want to use partimage I think the only option is to find your own work-around to this issue. If you plan well, hopefully it will not be necessary to cancel. What is the size of your source partition? Are you saving the image in chunks or as a single file? What media are you saving to (hopefully a hdd)?

Sorry you lost some work/time. Good luck on finding a work-around.

Thanks for the information, I didn't realize the project had gone dormant.
I had to cancel due to time constraints - I had a very limited window in which to get the image captured, and was in danger of exceeding it.
I'll look at other alternatives. Thank you.
