Partimage performs checks on the data on the image by placing a series of 11 bytes every 65,552 bytes along the image. You can see this with a hex editor. When translated to ASCII, the first three bytes read as CHK. That's followed by (in hex) 00, then 4 random bytes that I can't find any pattern to; then the last three bytes are determined by it's numerical order in the check structure. The first 4 series of checks have 00 00 00 as the last 3 bytes. The 5th - 8th series of checks have 40 00 00 as the last 3 bytes, and so forth.

If there is a number of bytes between checks that does not equal 65,552, you get the error "Impossible to find local check structure." If your checks are spaced correctly, but are out of order, you get a different message that tells you your image is out of order.

What version of Partimage are you using? I had this problem with split image files using Partimage 0.6.4 on SystemRescueCD 0.2.18. The check structure error occured between the 1st and 2nd splits. SystemRescueCD 0.2.19 seemed to fix this bug.

I can tell you a workaround if you have this exact error and absolutely need to restore from split images created from SystemRescueCD 0.2.18.

Hi

I have same problem as pcouas. I was using same verions of partimage and also on SystemRescueCD 0.2.19 pre-release 5. But i think i know why this message appeared in my case.

I was making image of my disk (about 30gb). I wanted to save image in one volume on fat32, I forgot that fat32 max file size is 4gb. When i realized what am i doing i stopped saving image and started over, but i told partimage to overwrite. It didn't overwritten it - it continued from last session.

If any one knows how to recover data from that image files i would be grateful for letting me know how to do it.

I have the same problem.
I wanted to make a backup of my windows partition with a Knoppix 5.1 LiveCD. It crashed two times. In the third run it worked, but in every new run it was quicker than in the last one.
After deleting the windows partition, I wanted to restore it.
But I got this "unable to find a local check structure'.
Where and how to do this hacks in the files.
Five files windows.00[0-4].
The error occurs first when it tries to load windows.001.

Thanks for any help :)

Hi,

I got this error too, I use sysrescd and partimage since years and never got this error before. So what the hell is this? Don't give us hexdumps since we don't care. Me and the others want to know what did you screwed up in this tool.

There is no WAY the image had been damaged, I used it a lot and I had 2 copy from it.

you can try do something like this:
get to your directory with image files

cd /mnt/windows/image/

touch script.sh
and edit this file by mc or vi
inside this file paste below text

#!/bin/bash
gunzip -c image.000
gunzip -c image.001 | dd bs=512 skip=1
gunzip -c image.002 | dd bs=512 skip=1
gunzip -c image.003 | dd bs=512 skip=1
gunzip -c image.004 | dd bs=512 skip=1

[...] etc and then give execute bit

chmod script.sh +x

and run this:
./script.sh | partimage restore /dev/sda2 stdin

sda2 replace with your partition name
I think this can help

Guys this is a MEMORY ERROR. Your computer's memory is bad.

I was running sysrescd memtest after I noticed my appz like vmware cried about memory RW error and yeah it found it.

So the error what partimage droped out is such a dumbass error like most of the windows one hah.

What I really want to know this point. I made a new windows image, and I wondering if that's damaged now because this memory error. My box certainly can't restore any of the images now.
