Cannot image unmountable NTFS drive

Post by rick » Sat Jul 19, 2008 3:51 pm

I have an NTFS drive that has windows xp on it. I also have another ext3 drive with Ubuntu Linux. My windows xp drive no longer boots; it just gives me the grub menu. I cannot mount the ntfs drive in linux, although I have all the necessary packages to do so. I think there is some kind of filesystem error, but most of the windows files are still there, just inaccessible.

What I need to do is get the files off of the drive and back them up so I can start a fresh xp install on it. I've tried partimage and get this error:

Code: Select all

terminate called after throwing an instance of std::bad_alloc'
what():  std::bad_alloc
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
