Isthis possible?

Post by bunny47 » Mon Jul 26, 2004 12:52 pm

Isit possible to make something simmiliar to software and boot from cd, then make s script to automatically let partimage make an image of the hard drive onto antoher and exit upon completion? in other words no user intervention required?

Another thing - can I make an image of my server that has 6 scsi drives on raid5?

I'm working on this right now. I found a listing in the unofficial FAQ page that shows commandline usage of partimage. The commands don't seem to be working though. The System Rescue CD appears to be capable of autoexecuting scripts to this doesn't seem like it will be too hard.

Ok, I've got my commandline problems worked out. Now I am having a friend of mine work out an autoexecute script for my System Rescue CD. I'm not sure if I want to dump to a different partiton on the HD or to a USB device. I might even use a SMB share, but I would like to have something my field users can use.

Is it a partimage fork?

device-image projet

It is not a fork from partimage. The whole idea is different. With this tool we do copy all sectors byte by byte, without analysis and independent from the file system. After that we do in-memory-compress and split the whole image file into pieces of definite size.
