Unable to fill in text boxes in GUI interface

Post by julia a » Sat Jun 12, 2010 1:20 pm

I'm very new to Linux (I've just installed Ubuntu), but I want to make an image of the hard disk. I've downloaded Partimage and accessed the GUI via the terminal. However, the system won't allow me to enter the path to the image file. I'm sure there is a simple explanation, but I can't work out what it is!

Grateful for any advice (please provide step by step instructions suitable for a Linux newbie!)

Many thanks

The online Partimage Manual is pretty good, if you have questions. Probably you simply aren't "in" the path box, though. You must tab from box to box, filling them out in order. After first choosing to "save" the image, tab to the "path" box and you should be able to use the normal keys or even cut and paste to enter your info. Going from page to page on the gui uses the F5 key.

There are some things to remember before committing to partimage though. It is a good cloning app for some uses, but not all. It supports clones of ext3 partitions but not the newer ext4 ones. The first few pages of the manual discusses this.

Good luck
